The Creston, Iowa Chamber of Commerce is seeking a qualified candidate to be our next Executive Director. This is a great opportunity for those wanting a career allowing them to be a leader while also performing business development, community engagement, and tourism activities that enhance the overall prosperity of the Creston area. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a similar role or for a similar organization, will possess excellent communication skills, and is able to build and strengthen relationships.
Essential Duties:
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to the Chamber of Commerce in coordination with the Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
- Manage all aspects of daily operations, including supervision of one office employee, oversee financial accounting activities, and lead all meetings of the Chamber and Chamber committees.
- Communicate with board members, general membership, community members, and public organizations.
- Ability to present and represent the Chamber at public events and meetings and engage with local government and other organizations to support community initiatives.
- Plan, organize, and oversee major community events, including parades, 4th of July activities, annual Balloon Days Celebration, and No Place Like Creston for the Holidays.
- Advocate for and promote all businesses in the Creston area.
- Act as a liaison between the Chamber and the community, fostering positive relationships.
- Develop and implement tourism strategies and promotions for the Creston area.
- Identify and pursue funding opportunities, including grants and sponsorships.
- Communicate effectively with media, stakeholders, and the public.
- Maintain a positive image of the Chamber and its initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Willingness to reside in Creston or Union County, IA is strongly preferred. Chamber offers up to $1,000 in moving expense reimbursement.
- Experience in leadership, event planning, and community engagement.
- Passion for promoting local businesses and enhancing community well-being.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- General computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office products, internet, email, social media, and other necessary programs needed to accomplish the job.
- Basic accounting knowledge and experience overseeing and reconciling financial accounts for an organization is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Background Check & Drug Screen required.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, public relations, or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university is strongly preferred.
- In lieu of a four-year degree, a combination of a two-year degree from an accredited institution and applicable work experience may be considered.
- Base Salary of $40,000 to $45,000, based on experience and qualifications.
- Annual Stipend in addition to base compensation for use towards Retirement and Health Insurance.
- Paid Membership Dues for a Creston service club, Partial cell phone reimbursement, mileage reimbursement at the IRS Standard Rate.
- Paid Leave for Vacation Days, Sick Leave, Personal Leave, and 10 Holidays per year.
